Juan Valcárcel, Ph.D.

Juan Valcárcel is Deputy Director of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona and Chair of its Gene Regulation, Stem Cells and Cancer Department. Since the time of his Ph.D. work, Dr. Valcárcel has focused on how pre-mRNAs are spliced and how this process can be regulated. He is a Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) Research Professor. His work has greatly contributed to the scientific understanding of how alternative pre-mRNA splicing has become essential for interpreting complex genomes and the important implications this process has on human disease.
